Science is present in every aspect of our life. However, despite multiple educational efforts, lScientific knowledge remains remote and difficult to access for the general public. For Ximena Gallegos, Alumni of the Leadership Program and leader of the Enseña Peru Turn On STEM project, it is important to bring people closer to the scientific world by relying on the experience and experiences of people who do science.

Therefore, in order to promote science, Enseña Perú and 3M created Podcast “Turn on STEM”, a learning space that seeks to awaken curiosity towards topics related to science and technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation. The objective is that children, teachers and people in general can discover in a dynamic way, together with different experts, how these disciplines contribute to today’s world.

“It is necessary to disseminate science from different spheres in order to know how to behave in the face of what is happening in the world and take care of our environment and surroundings in general”, iGallegos indicates. For this space, they have had the participation of Pamela Valle, creator of Endemic; Ylich Villagra, founder of the Cosechando Aprendizajes project, and Cristian Vélez, educational coordinator of the Amazon Rescue Center (CREA) and Amazon Forever.

Via Endemic, an original proposal that unites science and sustainable fashion, Pamela Valle seeks to generate knowledge and interest in biology, through prints of animals, plants, bacteria, viruses on different garments. In the case of Harvesting Learning, Ylich Villagra uses the ABP (Project-Based Learning) methodology so that students from the Amazon acquire knowledge through experiential projects where they identify, create, design and search for solutions to a problem.

Finally, Cristian Velez, indicates that, through CREA, it seeks to make visible the species that are in danger of extinction in the Amazon, such as the manatee. In addition, he wants the communities to know about these species, through training to generate environmental awareness in children. In this way, science can be done and contribute to caring for the environment and nature.

The project Turn on STEM It also has a resource website for teachers and students, where they can promote and develop new learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
