Letter: Work to prevent climate change

As I wrote this letter, the thermometer read 114. The previous all-time temperature record was 107. Climate change is real, helped enormously by humans even though many do not believe that. I fear that by the time people wake up and smell the roses, there may not be any roses.

The water that produces our hydroelectricity will keep receding and less electricity will be produced — businesses will be impacted, power blackouts will become a rule, and gas stations won’t be able to pump gas into our behemoths because gas stations need power, too. The power for air conditioning will be curtailed and, as we know, that will cause serious problems.

Everyone needs to be aware of carbon dioxide, methane, coal emissions, and other environmental issues; learn from investigating, not from ignorant politicians who will say anything to get reelected. Everyone needs to put their big-person pants on and think of their children’s and grandchildren’s future. What will you say when they ask you why you didn’t do anything because you wanted to preserve your cushy lifestyle?

As Mark Twain said, “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you in trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” If you are so sure that mankind is not the major contributor, then refer to this quote.
