Lime e-bikes appeared around Cleveland over the weekend, 50 of them to be exact, though the company said it will ramp up to 400 to accommodate rider demand.
Lime was one of three electronic mobility companies whose permits were renewed with the city of Cleveland last month to continue operating mobile scooters.
All three were also granted permits to expand into e-bikes, and though Lime is the first to deploy, Bird and Spin will likely follow soon.
Despite the pandemic, the city’s shared mobility program has seen 494,000 individual trips spanning more than 540,000 miles.
“As the program continues to mature, the city is working with the permitted operators to improve parking behavior, restrict riding on sidewalks, and expand access to scooter and bike share across Cleveland,” a city press release stated.
“We’re thrilled to bring our best-in-class e-bikes to Cleveland,” Phil Jones, Senior Director of Government Relations, Lime, said in a press release. “We’re committed to supporting Cleveland’s economic recovery with safe, affordable, and sustainable transportation options for residents and visitors. With the arrival of e-bikes, we look forward to helping folks Rediscover the Land while supporting a sustainable transportation future from our scooters and e-bikes.”
