You’d have to be living under a deeply embedded rock to not know that Sustainability has been one of the buzzwords of the year; with corporations scrambling over each other to launch sustainability programs, to inject elements of sustainability into their operations. And that’s why I’ll give due credit to Nespresso, as they’ve been championing Sustainability since 2003 – way before other companies even knew how to spell the word.
In 2003, it was the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program; and in 2014, the Nespresso Sustainability Innovation Fund was launched – the results of the seven-year initiative published in The Positive Cup. In July of this year, the World Finance Magazine voted Nespresso ‘The Most Sustainable Company in the Coffee Processing Industry 2021’. So if you’re looking for a company with Sustainability as part of their very DNA, it would be Nespresso.
So it’s Nespresso for taste and aroma – brought to you with a very high regard for Sustainability. With Nespresso’s third boutique in the country, at Robinsons Magnolia, Quezon City, we can all expect an even more immersive experience in the stories, heritage, and spirit of creativity that lie behind the company’s highly-regarded coffees.
As Patrick Pesengco, Managing Director of Novateur Coffee Concepts, was proud to say, “We’re very much delighted for the launch of Nespresso at Robinsons Magnolia. We know it’ll bring so much excitement to customers as they get more involved in the stories behind the cup of coffee they enjoy every day, and how the capsules are being given a second life.”
The boutique’s interior and design are living testament to their commitment to Sustainability. The floor tiles and lamps echo what are found in the coffee farms. There’s an ingenious use of our local capiz in a section of the walls. The table tops were made from used coffee grounds and 100% sourced wood from reforestation programs. And to add to the overall design and effect, there’s a virtual window with a view of coffee farms – paying homage to Nespresso’s partner farming communities.
As with all Nespresso boutiques, you’ll soon find the interactive Recycling Corner, where the used aluminum capsules can be deposited, weighed, and it’ll show you what useful everyday object can be created – from pens, to chopsticks and Swiss Army knives. Coffee grounds collected are sent to local partner farms to be used as compost.
That it’s now the Holiday season also means special Festive collections, as all Nespresso fans know, and anticipate. This 2021, it’s a collaboration with Colombian fashion designer Johanna Ortiz – the ‘Gifts of the Forest’ collection. Ortiz has been known for making her design philosophy go hand in hand with nature; her designs exhibiting an interplay with nature and sustainability. And as Colombian coffee is known all over the world, the collaboration was Heaven-sent, and close to home, as Nespresso is supporting the protection of 10 million trees in the Amazon in partnership with Conservation International.
There are three special Forest Variations coffees:
- Forest Black – a spicy espresso from the shade-grown Colombian coffees, with exotic, woody notes.
- Forest Full Flavour – juicy berry aromas run through this flavored espresso. South American Arabica’s lingering cereal character, with a sweet festive pastry note.
- Forest Almond Flavour – a sweet, nutty flavor with Arabica. Its almond notes marked by vanilla and light fruitiness.
And to add spice to the collection, there are a number of Limited-edition accessories. These include a Nespresso x Johanna Ortiz advent calendar, a tote bag, and a notebook. The iconic Touch travel mug also got a makeover this holiday season, with a golden color mug now available, one that sparkles.
With Nespresso, one can enjoy the richness and subtlety of flavor and aroma in your coffee, with a company that isn’t joining the Sustainability bandwagon, but is one of Sustainability’s pioneers.
