Ornithologists slam Commission for criticism of monitoring efforts

In the wake of an angry letter from scientists, the European Commission has defended its criticism of volunteer efforts to monitor bird populations on EU farmland – and warned more broadly of “serious gaps” in information about the impact of agriculture on biodiversity.
