Rep. Sherrill Joins Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Business Leaders at Clean Energy Business Roundtable
Discussed Clean Energy Businesses’ Leadership in the Green Economy, Supporting Economic Recovery Through Key Infrastructure Investments

Parsippany, NJ –– Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) joined Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and business leaders from across northern New Jersey at a roundtable discussion on clean energy and the key ways crucial infrastructure investments will fuel the growth of sustainable businesses across the state.

Rep. Sherrill and Secretary Granholm were joined by:

  • Kelly Speakes Backman, Acting Assistant Secretary, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)
  • Dr. Shawn R. Klein, Mayor of Livingston
  • Jim Schnepper, CEO, GAF Roofing Shingles and Materials
  • Richard Lawton, Executive Director, New Jersey Sustainable Business Council
  • Lyle Rawlings, President and CEO, Advance Solar Products
  • Dominique Lueckenhoff, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Hugo Neu Corporation
  • Maddy Urbish, Head of Government Affairs and Policy, Orsted
  • Karen Reif, Vice President of Renewables and Energy Solutions, PSEG
  • Angela Ortiz, ESG & Sustainability Manager, PSEG

“These New Jersey businesses are fueling the clean energy economy across our state and setting the gold-standard for the entire country. New Jerseyans know we can tackle the effects of a changing climate, fuel our economic recovery, and ensure our children’s future at the same time,” said Rep. Sherrill. “I was so grateful to join Secretary Granholm and these business leaders to outline how making the right investments in infrastructure can bolster the work of these companies, make our nation more resilient, help us confront the climate crisis, and create thousands of good-paying jobs across my district and the entire state. I’ve worked with many of these companies directly, and NJ-11 is better because of their commitment to our communities and our planet.”

“New Jersey has already shown so much leadership making America’s clean energy future come to life, and I’m grateful to Congresswoman Sherrill for convening today’s conversation with clean energy business leaders,” said Secretary Granholm. “The discussion was very much a joint brainstorming session about how President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda will supercharge New Jersey’s progress, and how we can work together to accelerate clean energy deployment and create good-paying, union jobs to reach 100% clean electricity by 2035, and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.”

As the chair of the House Science, Space, and Technology’s Environment Subcommittee, Rep. Sherrill is a fierce advocate for the development and deployment of clean energy technology and New Jersey’s role in leading this transformation.

The current bipartisan infrastructure framework includes the largest investment towards a carbon-free future in our nation’s history, including: funding to build a national network of over 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations, resources to convert much of our school bus and public transit vehicle fleet to all-electric, major investments in passenger rail and public transit agencies to reduce transportation emissions, and significant funding to improve infrastructure resilience to climate change and natural disasters.
