The Sallins Biodiversity Group is holding a Life in Water event for National Heritage Week.
is part of Sallins Tidy Towns and has been busy in the community, holding regular events to raise awareness in the community on how we can all make small changes to support our natural environment.
In the past 18 months, Sallins Biodiversity has planted around 1,000 tree saplings in and around the village.
Numerous talks and family friendly activities have been held, including hosting talks from Bird Watch Ireland, Bat Conservation Ireland, and Irish Peatland Conservation Council.
And most recently, Sallins Biodiversity Group has started monthly water sampling in the Liffey and Morrell Rivers around Sallins, working with LAWPRO to see how we can improve our local water quality.
On Sunday, 13 August 2023, a second annual Life in Water event will be held, encouraging the community to consider ways in which we can all help protect our local waterways from pollution and eutrophication.
There will be a raffle for spot prizes, a scavenger hunt and games for the kids, as well as our information booth where people can learn more about biodiversity more generally and about our local waterways more specifically and how we can support them.
