Photographers have until the end of July to participate in the Living Lakes Canada contest

NEWS RELEASE

LIVING LAKES CANADA

*******************************

Living Lakes Canada is inviting lake enthusiasts across Canada to submit photos of their favourite lakes to the second annual Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge. This contest celebrates the beauty of Canada’s two million lakes while raising awareness around the climate change impacts that are threatening their incredible biodiversity.

Lake photographers have until the end of July to participate. Photos can be submitted using the online submission form or by email to lakeblitz@livinglakescanada.ca, or by using #LakeBlitzPhoto on social media. All photos will be displayed in the online gallery and the best of each week will be shared on Living Lakes Canada’s social media channels.

Everyone who enters will be eligible to win in four different categories: Most Biodiverse, Most Impacted, Public Favourite, and a Kids Category. The winners in the first three categories will receive prize packs that include products from contest sponsors: Kicking Horse Coffee, Lush Cosmetics and DAVIDsTEA.

Winners of the Most Biodiverse and Most Impacted category will be chosen by Living Lakes Canada and the Public Favourite will be selected based on social media likes. The Kids Category winner will be selected by the kids’ conservation organization Earth Rangers and awarded a kid-friendly prize pack that’s age appropriate and awesome! All winners will be announced in early August.

In 2021, almost 200 photos were submitted from across Canada to the inaugural contest. The Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge is the sister event to Living Lakes Canada’s 2nd annual National Lake Blitz, a citizen-science, lake-monitoring initiative that provides volunteer participants from coast to coast with easy-to-use water monitoring tools to help them monitor their favourite lake. The 2022 Lake Blitz is made possible thanks to funding from RBC’s Tech for Nature program.

To learn more, visit the website or email the Lake Blitz co-ordinator at lakeblitz@livinglakescanada.ca.
