WASHOUGAL — Washougal High School recently received a Bronze Level certification through the EarthGen program, which provides a framework for schools to become more sustainable. Representatives from EarthGen, Waste Connections, Clark County Green Schools and Washougal School District gathered on June 2 to celebrate the school’s progress. Long tables were added to the school’s commons area during lunch periods that have buckets for sorting meal waste and recyclable containers. “The combination of this team and their work actually addressed two problems we had been facing at Washougal High School,” said Sheree Clark, the school’s principal. “Students were throwing away a lot of uneaten food because they did not like the taste. And there was expense and waste generated by the one-time use, disposable service ware.” Moving forward, there are plans to create an official Green Team club at the high school.
